​A 4-week guided course for artists new to vector illustration. larn the tools, complete real projects and build your confidence - with templates, demos and suport from DTM.

• Week 1 – Foundations of Character Design + Illustrator Basics
• Week 2 – From Sketch to Digital Linework
• Week 3 – Coloring & Styling Your Character
• Week 4 – Finishing & Presenting Your Character
• Private Discord group for feedback

By the end of Week 4, every student will have:

• A finished vector character design.
• A repeatable workflow for future projects.
• Experience working with peer feedback and iteration.
• Confidence to keep designing independently.

Week 1 – Foundations of Character Design + Illustrator Basics
🎯 Objectives:

• Understand core principles of character design (shapes, silhouettes, personality).
• Get familiar with Illustrator’s workspace and essential tools.
• Practice building simple characters with shapes.

📝 Checklist:

• Complete a warm-up exercise: create 3 simple characters from basic shapes.
• Sketch a rough concept for your final character (paper or digital).
• Share sketch in Discord for feedback.

Week 2 – From Sketch to Digital Linework
🎯 Objectives:

• Learn how to import sketches into Illustrator.
• Practice using the Pen tool, Shape Builder, and Pathfinder for clean linework.
• Refine proportions and build strong silhouettes.

📝 Checklist:

• Import your chosen sketch into Illustrator.
• Create clean linework for your character design.
• Share line art for group feedback and iteration.

Week 3 – Coloring & Styling Your Character
🎯 Objectives:

• Understand color theory basics for character design.
• Apply flat colors, highlights, and shadows in Illustrator.
• Experiment with palettes that enhance mood and personality.

📝 Checklist:

• Select a final color palette for your character.
• Apply base colors + add at least 1 layer of shading/highlights.
• Post colorized character for feedback in Discord.

Week 4 – Finishing & Presenting Your Character
🎯 Objectives:

• Finalize your character with clean details and polish.
• Learn how to export artwork for portfolio, print, or social media.
• Build confidence in sharing your creative work.

📝 Checklist:

• Add finishing touches (details, textures, background if desired).
• Export your final character (PNG, PDF, or AI file).
• Share your completed character in the group showcase.
